Thelma and Elma are twins who feel they are bound to be old "maedels." When they inherit their grandparents house and business, they have a lot of work to do to fix the place up. When a baking competition flyer catches their attention, they enter with a cake from their grandmother's recipe collection. The auction day arrives and things go every way but their's, until someone keeps upping the bid on their cake!
I really enjoyed the story and the title makes perfect sense. This was a really short story which didn't allow for much depth to the characters. I would have really enjoyed it more if we could have dug a little deeper into the twin idea. From what I gathered, it is pretty common to have twins in an Amish family, and I've never read an Amish book previously that was set around twins. A little more depth into their character and their relationship would have been a pleasant addition to the story.
I also wished the names of the twins would have been a bit more different. It was very hard to keep up with Thelma and Elma. I had a hard time keeping that separate in my mind and remembering who was who. That may also be because there wasn't a lot of depth to their character. It would have made it a little easier if they had different names.
I also enjoyed the romance side of the story, especially when things didn't work out for one of the twins. That was a nice little twist to the story.
I enjoyed the story and reading about the twins. Nice, short and quick read.
