Lyndie has just moved back to Holley, Texas and the town in which she grew up. Her best friend growing up, Jake Porter, is also in Holley but he's seen his worst nightmare as he served in the military and watched his friends die. Unable to forgive himself for not seeing an IED, Jake continues to shut everyone out, including Lyndie.

"God is good!" Lyndie's family clung to that phrase, even while having to do everything for Mollie, Lyndie's younger sister who suffered a birthing mishap which left her with cerebral palsy. Lyndie's faith and her desire to see Jake reconnect with God was another reflection of her character. "Move in his life, God." That was Lyndie's prayer. She knew that if Jake didn't regain his faith and turn back to God, their relationship would not endure. "She refused to exchange the future she wanted for the man she wanted right now." Lyndie was an absolutely beautiful character inside and out.

I have to say that Jake was probably my least favorite Porter brother, but the story and Lyndie's devotion to helping him was just beautiful. He suffered from PTSD and had shut himself off from others. When Lyndie re-entered his life, he had an unhealthy desire to protect her from being hurt. So extreme that he didn't even want her riding his horses due to his fear of her falling off and getting hurt.

I think I finally figured out what I love so much about Becky's writing. She is so descriptive with her writing, that it allows you to paint such a clear mental image of what is going on and what someone looks like. While Jake may have been my least favorite Porter brother, Becky's writing once again painted a beautiful story of redemption, forgiveness, and healing.

I was graciously provided a free digital copy of this book from Bethany House in partnership with NetGalley to review it. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
