Grace's family is in a very tough situation and in a huge amount of debt. When they agree to Silas' deal to pay off all their debts in exchange for Grace's hand in marriage, life forever changes for Grace. After Silas passes unexpectedly, Grace flees the county and heads to PA to make a fresh start for her and her son. But, a new house and new scenery doesn't erase the awful memories she has. Can she trust someone with her heart again?
I have read all three in the series so far and would say this one is my favorite by far!! From the very first pages, I was captivated. I even said, "WHAT?" out loud at the beginning as I was reading. After a few pages, the story takes a jump in time and I was very skeptical about missing that much time in a story. However, as I started reading, I was enamored with Grace's story.
With this third one in the series, came another unusual, non-typical Amish story line. Grace's story revolved around a marriage of convenience, both former husband and her new one. And it also delved into an Amish marriage that was not like most Amish romances. I don't think I've ever read before about an Amish husband being so cruel to his wife that she felt completely destroyed inside. I wept for her and with her. I couldn't imagine feeling "stuck" in such a marriage.
Sweet, sweet Seth comes along and has an eye for Grace. His tenderness and understanding of Grace's horrid past is apparent in every conversation he has with her. More importantly and despite the fact they married quickly, his love for her knows no limits. I was really touched by how Seth related to Grace, didn't push, didn't belittle, didn't say "get over it," but rather showed her love and compassion. Much like I picture God's love for us. No matter our past, our hurt, our shame, He waits for us and He loves us with an unending love.
I HIGHLY recommend this sweet story of true love. If you didn't read any of the others in the series, it's ok. This book has come out two years after I read the other two books in the series, so I hardly remembered the other two. I had to go back to my review to refresh my memory, but only because I was trying to remember what characters were in the other stories, not for any understanding of this story.
I was graciously provided a free digital copy of this book from Thomas Nelson in partnership with Booksneeze to review it. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
